Curionica – Privacy Policy
Effective date: 6 July 2025
Curionica (“we”, “our”, “us”) is an iOS/iPad app that helps preschool-aged children explore everyday objects through images, short descriptions, and audio narration. We take privacy—especially children’s privacy—seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how parents can exercise their rights.
1. What Information We Collect
| Category | Data | Purpose | COPPA Basis* |
|---|---|---|---|
| App-usage events | Anonymous events such as first_open, object_view, audio_play, paywall_view | Understand engagement & feature use | Internal-operations |
| Crash reports | Stack trace, iOS version, device model | Diagnose & fix bugs | Internal-operations |
| Device info (coarse) | iOS major version, locale, time zone | Analytics segmentation | Internal-operations |
| No personal identifiers | We do not collect name, email, precise location, IDFA/advertising ID, photos, or contacts. | – | – |
*“Internal-operations” exception under COPPA §312.2 allows collection of persistent identifiers only to support the app’s functionality, security, and analytics—provided the data is not used for marketing or profiling.
2. How We Use the Information
- Operate the service – deliver content, play audio, cache images.
- Improve Curionica – aggregated analytics guide new content and features.
- Maintain safety & performance – monitor crashes and prevent fraud.
We do not use the data to build advertising profiles, run third-party ads, or track users across other apps or websites.
3. Third-Party Service Providers
| Service | Role | Safeguards |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase Analytics (measurement-only mode) | Aggregated usage analytics | No IDFA, ad-personalization or remarketing enabled. |
| Google Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reporting | Data stored on Google Cloud (U.S.); no user-identifying info. |
| Mixpanel, Inc. | Funnel analytics & A/B testing | Data pseudonymised; EU Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers. |
We share only the anonymous data listed in Section 1 with these providers. They may not use it for their own advertising or sell it to others.
4. Children’s Privacy & Parental Rights
Curionica is meant for use with parental guidance by children under 13. Under the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), parents can:
- Review any personal information we may hold about their child
- Request deletion of that information
- Refuse further collection or use
Because we collect only anonymous, non-identifiable data for internal operations, verifiable parental consent is not required. If we ever seek to collect personal data (e.g., create user accounts or enable tracking for ads), we will first obtain verifiable parental consent.
To exercise rights, email [email protected].
5. Data Retention
| Data type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Crash logs | 90 days |
| Aggregated analytics (Firebase & Mixpanel) | 24 months (rolling) |
Older data is deleted or fully anonymised.
6. Security
- TLS 1.2+ encryption in transit
- HTTPS content delivery
- Least-privilege access controls
- Periodic security audits of Firebase, Mixpanel, and server configurations
7. International Transfers
Servers and third-party processors are located in the United States. By using Curionica from outside the U.S., you acknowledge your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. under U.S. law. Mixpanel implements EU Standard Contractual Clauses for such transfers.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will:
- Post the new policy in the app and on our website, and
- Indicate the “Effective date” at the top.
For material changes (e.g., enabling advertising IDs) we will notify parents inside the app and obtain new consent if required.
